"I began training in 1985 when the first karate club in Sheringham was started. I was 17 and my friends said they were going to the new karate club and that I should come too.
Although I was keen to learn karate having seen many martial arts films and being captivated by the movements, I was unsure about attending a class that would surely have some type of fighting contact.
I continued training, and over time all of my friends stopped training until I was the only original student left and had passed my black belt. I had been training on my own some nights when my instructor suggested that I begin teaching.
This was the beginning of Sheringham karate club under my instruction and although we had many years with only a small class it has grown steadily to this day."
